Dorothea Dawson's Baby Book. The title of the book is "Baby's Record" by Maud Humphrey published by Frederick A. Stokes Company, copyrighted in 1898. The book describes Dorothea Dawson's life until her graduation from Deadwood High School in 1923. On one of the pages is a small envelope. Inside were seven cards with birth congratulations (They have been removed from the envelope). There are photographs found in the following sections: "Baby's First Creeping", "The First Step", "The First Birthday", 2 in "baby First Photographs", "First Day in the Country", "Large Photographs", and 3 for "The First Party". There is a lock of Dorothea's hair in the "First Lock of Hair Section" and for the "Locks of Hair for Five Years". |

Dorothea Dawson Nelson was born March 24th, 1906 in Deadwood, South Dakota. Bertha Wringrose Dawson and Carleton E. Dawson were her parents. She married Stanley Nelson in 1938. Dorothea and Stanley and their children Norman and Carlyn lived on 14 Van Buren St, next door to the Adams Family, until 1946 when they moved to Rapid City, South Dakota. Dorothea was on the board of directors of the Franklin Hotel. Dorothea Dawson died in 1980 in Rapid City, South Dakota. |

Materials were found in Norman Nelson’s home in Rapid City, by his sister Carlyn Jervis, after his passing in April 2009. The materials were then donated by Carlyn Jervis on November 17, 2009. |
