Photograph depicting the Elks Parade on Deadwood's Main Street, taken looking north. The float shown coming down the street is decorated in white and pulled by four white horses. The float is double decker, and on the top deck is the Queen of the Carnival, Carrie Tippey. Buildings visible include the Bodega with a large wooden balcony, the Buffalo Saloon, the Bloom Building and the Phoenix Building, amongst others. In the distance the tower of the Fairmont Hotel and the corner of the Syndicate Building are visible. One sign reads "Chicago Bargain Store." Written on the back in pencil is "1902 // Deadwood // Elks Convention." and "From Note taped to front // "Elks Convention Parade // 1902 Main Street // Deadwood, So. Dak. // Carie Tippie, Queen of Carnival."" |
