Series of photographs of drill bits. 259-1: Close up of drill bits with the following labels: "Ingersol M.A.15.," Ingersol M.A.25.," "Ingersol Butterfly," "Leyner," "Shaw," and "Waugh." 259-2: Two rows of nine drill bits in each row. The top row is labeled "Old" and the bottom row is labeled "New," 1939. 259-3: Tungsten carbide bits 1-3/8", 1953. Photograph taken by Black Hills Studios, Inc. Sharp Bits May 1953, Vol. 4, No. 4 pg. 2 top "New, High-speed detachable bits -- shown above are the 1 3/8 inch diamenter tungsten carbide bits that now are used exclusively in underground drilling operations. These bits which cost about 10 dollars each, have succeeded one-use detachable bits and forged drill steel. The cutting edges are the four inserts on the face of the bits. They are tungsten carbide, an extremely hard, tough alloy. some 2 1/2 inch carbide bits are also used, primarily in drilling burn holes in development drifts." 259-5: Close up of many drill bits creating a sort of textured image. 259-8: Photograph of several drill bits and other tools, 1953.
