Description |
Series of photographs of fan repairs. 312-1: View of a tunnel and tracks underground. 312-2: View of a tunnel in the underground, with an engine in the background. 312-3: View of a tunnel in the underground mine. 312-4: Close-up of a ventilation fan underground in mine. 312-5: Close-up of a fan underground in mine. 312-6: View of a ventilation fan in the underground mine, 1953. 312-7: Air fan and rubber vent bag, 1st mine fan, first motor driven fan unit in mine in 1918. Photograph dated 1923. 312-8: Melvin Targrude shown repairing a ventilation bag. These bags come in lengths of 25, 50 or 100 ft and are used to carry air from a fan to a working face. Any leaks must be repaired to ensure proper ventilation reaching the men at the face, 1955. 312-9: George Aspen in canvas and leather shop shown making a sample sack. 312-10: Alvin Ross is shown washing a sample sack. Each sample sack that has been used must be cleaned before reusing. The sacks are washed by placing them over the pipe shown in the picture and then turning on air and water under pressure. 312-11: Ray Meyer is shown oiling an automatic vented-action door. He takes care of all automotive doors including repairs, cleaning and lubrication, 1955. In 2017, Tom Regan identified this door as a "canton" door a "very ingenious mechanical invention that allowed the weight of the locomotive and cars on the track to push down on spring loaded rails to open the door and close as the vehicles pass on." 312-12: Ventilating Fans and Pumps---the fans (on the right) picks up air from air conditioner and blow it through ventilation bag to the face of the drift. This equipment is on the 5,600-foot level, No. 4 Winze. The small pump (on the left) pumps the water off the level that accumulates from drilling operations. 312-13: Ventilation auto air door. Unidentified man operating an engine. 312-14: View of the ventilation air door closed. 312-15: Unidentified man standing next to a machine. 312-16: Two unidentified men drilling a hole in the mine wall, and two unidentified men observe. 312-17: Three unidentified men looking at a machine. 312-18: Unidentified man standing next to a machine. 312-19: Three unidentified men standing around a machine. 312-20: Four unidentified men standing around a machine. 312-21: Three unidentified men operating a machine. 312-24: Three unidentified men operating a machine. 312-26: Unidentified man standing under a rubber vent bag, 1964. 312-27: Two unidentified men standing in front of and pointing at a drawing hanging on a wall. |
