"Dead Man's Hand" |
Description |
Postcard featuring drawing of black aces and 8's with a smoking revolver in the center, bordered by drawings of Hickok, Calamity Jane, Preacher Smith and a photo of Poker Alice. On back: "Last hand held by Wild Bill Hickok, in a long career at the poker table, was dealt just before he was shot from behind by Jack McCall with a .45 Colt revolver. The pair of black aces, black eights and a nine of diamonds was forever afterwards known as the "Dead Man's Hand." Hickok, famed lawman; Calamity Jane, army scout and bull-whacker; Preacher Smith, pioneer martyr; and Poker Alice, notorious lady of cards; all contributed to the colorful past of early-day Deadwood." |
