After the cyanide solution has dissolved all the soluble gold, the sands are removed from the vat by sluicing. The water distributed over the sand area by the revolving machine here, slowly washes the sand from the vat through the gate at the vat center. Four additional side gases at the quarter points assist in removal of the bottom sand layers. Near the center gate is a section of the filter canvas which has bubbled up from the air entrapped under the canvas. 176-10: View of the interior of a tank.
