Description |
Sculptor James H. Riordan standing by his statue of James Butler "Wild Bill" Hickok. The Statue was Hickok's second grave marker, after his body was moved to Mount Moriah Cemetery. It was essentially destroyed by visitors to the grave that gradually chipped away at it for a souvenir. It was eventually replaced by a bronze replica. The caption reads: "26. WILD BILL'S MONUMENT / James B. Hickoc [sic], alias "Wild Bill," born May / 27, 1837 at Home, Ill. Killed by Jack McCall / at Deadwood, S.D. , Aug. 2, 1876, where his body now lies." |
