Description |
Three rectangular wooden awards mounted vertically onto a metal rod. Rod is bent into a hook at the top. Top award has a rectangular piece of plastic in the center that covers a maroon colored award. The award has a gold colored eagle near the center holding a green and white circle with a cross in the center and white text reading "GREEN CROSS / FOR SAFETY". Above and below the eagle is text reading "NATIONAL SAFETY COUNCIL / AWARD / METALLURGICAL DEPARTMENT / HOMESTAKE MINING COMPANY / BLACK HILLS OPERATIONS / WINNER / DIVISION III / MINING SECTION SAFETY CONTEST / JULY 1, 1971 - JUNE 30, 1972". Second award has a silver colored plaque in the center that is behind plastic. Has an outline of a ribbon at top center. Text reading "NATIONAL SAFETY COUNCIL / AWARD / OF / MERIT / GREEN CROSS / FOR SAFETY / NATIONAL SAFETY COUNCIL / presented to / HOMESTAKE MINING COMPANY / METALLURGICAL DEPT. / BLACK HILLS OPERATIONS / FOR A NO-DISABLING INJURY RECORD IN THE / 1972-1973 MINING SECTION SAFETY CONTEST . . . " The third award has a beige plaque behind plastic. There is an eagle on the left side and text in red, black and white reading "NATIONAL SAFETY COUNCIL / AWARD / presented to / METALLURGICAL DEPARTMENT / HOMESTAKE MINING COMPANY / BLACK HILLS OPERATION / SECOND PLACE / DIVISION III / MINING SECTION SAFETY CONTEST / JULY 1, 1973 - JUNE 30, 1974". A strip of black plastic at the bottom is embossed with white text reading "1,239,945 HOURS AND COUNTING NOV. 20, 1974". |
