Description |
Part A: Bottom has hard wood brown case with a bottom rectangular plank attached at bottom. Sides of case carved with columns at each corner. Extending from one side of case is a steel L handle with a black spherical wood knob at end of handle. Along top edge of rectangular wood case is a flared top with two steel levers that operate as locking mechanisms for Part B which is the lid. Front and back on long sides of case are gold painted labels. Back label is shield shape and has text which reads, "THE / GRAPHOPHONE / AND / COLUMBIA RECORDS / WERE AWARDED / THE GRAND PRIZE / AT THE / PARIS EXPOSITION 1900 / AND / ST. LOUIS EXPOSITION 1904". Front label is a long gold scroll banner shape with several patent dates and text which reads, "THE / GRAPHOPHONE / MADE IN U.S.A. / COLUMBIA PHONOGRAPH Co. / NEW YORK & LONDON". Top surface area has a chrome plated steel flat surface with a round turn knob and lever at front left of surface. Center has a black steel frame with a black belt and steel pulley at left side. Black frame decorated with painted flowers and along front bottom reads, "GRAPHOPHONE". Attached to left side of black frame at back is a tapered chrome plated steel cylinder. Across front is a steel bar with a sliding collar. Attached to collar is a chrome plated steel reading pin for cylinders and has a circular shape with a hollow cylinder at center of horn. Text around circular area reads, "REPRODUCER / PAT'D OCT.18, 1892 / MARCH 28, 1905 / 46737". Part B: Domed arched rectangular wood hollow lid for Part A. Two bands of brown trim. One band around bottom edge to match surface of Part A. Second band is smaller and wraps around the center of case where the top curves into dome. Top center has a rectangular plank with a steel handle and wood cylindrical grip attached to center. Steel handle has hooked ends that hook into eye bolts attached to top center case. Attached to inside on short sides in center are steel flat hooks for attaching lid to Part A. Fragment of company label inside. |
