Description |
Roughly cylindrical in shape. Gray pottery with raised scene of German beer hall showing four men and two women. One woman is standing at the table the other is kneeling next to a wooden keg. Scene has blue paint shadows. Top and bottom of scene are edges with rings that go around stein and the recessed areas are painted blue. Flanking either side of handle are two areas with vases at bottom filled with stalked plants and intertwined in the stalks are two ribbons. Written in these ribbons are two sayings in German, one side reads, : "Der Trunk Sei Klar" and the other reads, "Die Liebe Wahr". Along out side edge of handle are dots and the recessed area around dots is blue. Top outside facing side of handle also has a serrated pattern. Attached at top of handle is a domed pewter lid with pointed tip at top and three bands of filigree work. Thumb press for opening lid appears to be filigree scroll. Just under lid on stein in the grey pottery near handle is, "1 1/2 L". Bottom outside is stamped, " Made in Germany." |
