Description |
Part A: Silver or silver plate circular base with curved sides having a ribbed pattern of one wide rib flanked by two narrow ribs surface. Center of circular base is open to bottom with a upturned rounded edge. Part C fits into this open area. Attached to front of circular base is a horizontal arch section supported along edges underneath with triangular open cut floral and leaves sections. Affixed to top arch section is a rounded silver dome shape with concave sides that meet at a top small circular opening. dome section is hollow inside. Goblet (Part D) fits atop this dome. Affixed to top edge of circular main base are two upright supports on either side of circle spaced equally from front horizontal arch. Supports meet at top heavy gauge wire arch connecting two supports. Supports designed with open cut leaf and scrolls in triangular shapes at sides flowing up towards a fan shaped section with single flower in center and the fan shapes connected to the wire arch. Along inside face of supports attached to the fan shaped sections are two V shaped brackets for holding pitcher (Part B) and at middle point of left support on inside face is flat arc shape piece perpendicular to support with a flower and scroll work that acts as a stop for pitcher. Part B: Roughly cylindrical shape with a rounded bottom section that has a circular pedestal base attached to it with concave sides. Rounded bottom of pitcher has same ribbed pattern as base of stand (Part A). Left side of pitcher rounded bottom has a sphere. Textured sides of pitcher engraved with flowers, leaves, and branches. Front center of pitcher engraved with text that reads, "TO / PIONEER HOOK & LADDER Co. / FIRE CO. / From L.M.E. / JUNE 26, 1898". Near top along left and right sides are spokes attached to sides in domed shape sections that have four small Fleur de lies shapes at bases of domes. Spout is triangular in shape with a large bulbous area at base covered in a fish scale or feathered design arranged in a scroll with a fern leaf design at front edge of spout connecting the two bulbous sides. Spout top covered with small opening at tip with a pointed tip cutout. Back handle has a half heart shape with handle bases and top section engraved with a papyrus plant pattern. Top edge flares up and out from narrow band of ribbed adornment into a thin sheet and the top has a domed back hinged lid. Lid has a center dome with sides that have horizontal lines. Top dome final has a point with the spherical shape having a ribbed surface. Inside of pitcher has a white porcelain liner. Hallmark on bottom center with text reads, "MERIDAN SILVER PLATE CO. / QUADRUPLE PLATE / 239 / BC / HARD / WHITE / METAL". In center of hallmark is an engraved set of weight scales. Part C: Silver plated circular dish shape with rounded top edges. Inside bottom of dish engraved with large floral pattern in different flowers including, roses, daisies, and fuchsia. Attached to edge is singular handle in a rectangular shape. Design has open cut flowers and arch with flower stems forming an "X" in center of rectangular shape. Part D: Silver plated goblet with a bulbous spherical shape to top. Circular base which narrow to a short pillar that attached to bulbous spherical bottom of top. Bulbous shape has a textured surface engraved with flowers and leaves in two sections opposing each other. Bulbous section then transitions into a circular ring shape with straight sides heavily engraved with flowers, leaves, birds, and insects before forming a rolled top edge. Inside hollow center is lined in a gold colored metal. In underside of stem is a hallmark with the image of a lion and the words, "MERIDEN SILVER PLATE CO / QUADRUPLEPLATE / 932". |
