Series of photographs of celebrations from the Public Relations Department. 380-1: Homestake Mining Company Float for the Gold Discovery Days. Two men standing in front of the float and two men standing on the float. Appears to be two women behind the float, one of the women has her arms stretched out to the sky. The Miner on right is identified as Wm Trengove. The float has a large stack of rectangles with the following written on it "1878-1890 // $25,000,000. // 1891-1900 // $36,000,000. // 1901-1910 // $48,000,000. // 1911-1924 // $82,000,000." Sign on side of float reads "Homestake Mining Co. Lead, So. Dak. // Located April 9th 1874 // Eighty Stamp Mill Started July 12th 1878. // Deepest Level 2,300 ft. Total Tonnage Milled 48,000,0000 // Total Gold Produced $191,000,000 // Present Production 4,500 Tons per Day Valued at $18,000 // Number of Men Employed 1,800." 380-2: Man and a women sitting on horses. The photograph was taken by Black Hills Studios, Inc. 380-4: Float with young girls wearing white and a young boy wearing a fake beard holding a whip in front of a covered wagon and fake ox. 380-5: Float with a young boy and girl in front of a covered wagon and two fake ox. On the side of the float reads "Northwest Bancorporation." Below the fake ox is a sign that reads "Commercial National Bank of Sturgis." 380-6: Two men standing with a team of eight ox pulling a wagon. 380-7: Thee people in the sky with parachutes, 1948. 380-8: Two men chopping down a tree with a large crowd in the background. 380-9: Large crowd gathered while they watch two men process a tree. 380-10: Unidentified man standing at a podium with men and women sitting behind him. There is a sign at the front of the stage that reads "KOTA // FM // CBS." 380-11: Belle Fourche band in parade, 1950s. Near Sinking Gardens in Lead. 380-12: A Band on parade in Rapid City, South Dakota, 1965. In the background you can see Murphy's Bar, City Implement Co., and a sign for the Town 'n Country Hotel. 380-14: A large crowd of people sitting at tables outside eating food during a Labor Day Celebration, 1965. About 1,200 people attended this annual fall event commemorating Labor Day." 380-21: A large crowd of people sitting at tables outside eating food during a Labor Day Celebration, 1965. A second man is helping him with a microphone. There are other people sitting around them. 380-42: Three men standing at a podium, 1976. There are other people sitting around them. 380-43: Large group of people watching a man speak at a podium, 1976. On the back wall is a sign that says "Homestake." 380-44: Man being presented with a plaque, 1976. Other people sit around them. 380-45: Woman offering food to a man. 380-46: Man and woman sitting together. 380-47: Unidentified man speaking at a podium. There are other people sitting around them. 380-48: A large group of people gathered for a parachute or balloon in the sky. 380-49: Two photographs. The top image has a man riding a ox in front of the Grier Apartments. One of the doors behind the man has "Montana-Dakota Utilities Co." on it. The bottom photograph is the same man riding an ox with another man standing next to him. 380-50: Three men on a stagecoach. Behind the stagecoach are signs that read "Western Union," "[Illegible] Salon," and "Gold Run Inn." 380-51: Parked Stagecoach (same one that is in HMCC 380-50). On the stagecoach is pained "Denver Stage Lines Deadwood // Wells Fargo // U.S. Mail // South Dakota 75th Jubilee 1964." 380-52: Three photographs of a Balwen walking on a tight rope over the open cut, July 4th 1916. |
