Description |
Poured black cast iron bell set in cast-iron support frame with over-arching top. Rope wheel on one side. Frame is bolted to a wooden pallet w/dark varnished finish. In gold on bell: "First church bell in the Black Hills. Donated by Capt. W.B. Beard of New Bedford Mass. to the Deadwood Congregational Church in June 1877. Bell used at one time on a Mississippi River Steamboat." Made by the Goulds Mfg. Co., Seneca Falls. Raised letters on bell read "No. 8." |
