Description |
Part A: Roughly rectangular shaped ceramic case. Curved top section. Four slanted pointed feet at bottom in each of the four corners and a front bottom center foot that has a raised clam-like motif on front. Front two corners have pillars made to resemble bundled flowers with the bottoms brown and gradually changing to blue, green, and finally at top yellow. The yellow end has raised floral patterns. Along inside edges of column are alternating purple and gold painted raised flowers. Along bottom edge is a raised section of flowers painted in dark blues, purple, and magenta. Center at bottom has a slightly recessed area with the two edges having yellow painted scroll leaves. Center of leaves at bottom above center foot is a gold painted fleur de lis. Background of center has a pale green color and painted on both sides of clock face with purple, pink, yellow, and magenta poppy flowers. Also painted with poppies are smaller purple flowers and green leaves. Top center is a round scroll work gold colored case with thick glass cover over a ceramic white clock face with black Roman Numerals from I- XII. Face inside of glass cover encircled by a gold colored ring with oval and loop pattern. Cover over face opens on right and has a left side hinge. In center of face is a recessed area with a small brass gear with an inverted brass T shaped arm behind gear that has two small cylindrical spindles attached perpendicularly to the T shape. Center of recessed area has a spindle that has two black needle shaped hands. Written in black on bottom of recessed area is a diamond shape with an "A" in center of square and above diamond is the word, "TRADE / MARK". Along bottom edge are the words, "M'F'D BY THE ANSONIA CLOCK CO. NEW YORK, U.S.A.". On face with numerals are two round openings with square adjustments pegs at the IIII and VIII positions. One small adjustment peg at top center near XII position and on either side of peg is an "S" and "F". Top front edge has two curved areas at either end with one blue and purple flower, and one yellow flower both in a dark green background. Front center has a white teardrop shape with gold edging and gold painted image in center. White section surrounded by dark green border. Both sides in center of panel have a pink poppy flower with green flower pod above flower and small purple flowers as base. Back side is white with a hole in center covered by a round brass plate that has two raised ridges in center. Stamped just below opening in red is a logo which has a crown and shield. Text with the logo reads, "TM / 1755 / BONN / GERMANY / La Palma". Stamped into bottom left in back is, '2631" and other partial markings. Underside has wood bottom with four bolts and nuts visible. Inside back central cover is the visible brass timing mechanism. Stamped on mechanism is, "ANSONIA CLOCK Co. / PATENTED JUNE 14, 81 / NEW YORK, U.S.A. / PATENTED / JUNE 18, 1882". Part B: Yellow brass squared spindle with oval hole at top. Threaded rod protruding from bottom of circular weight. Weight is concave with adjusting nut in center. Weight stamped "S" and "F" on one side. Part C: Bottom is a brass circular shape with recessed groove near top where it attaches to a flat steel section. Bottom brass spindle has a squared hollow center. Flat steel middle section has two lobed areas, one at each side with circular holes in lobes. Top center has a small brass cylinder with a narrow groove at bottom. Top end of cylinder has a smaller cylindrical shape and a hollow middle. |
