Cyanide Plant No. 1 was constructed in 1901 on the south side of Gold Run Creek in Lead, South Dakota. The construction of the building was overseen by Charles W. Merrill's whose cyanide process was being used. The plant was in operation using Merrill's process until the mine's clossure in 2001. Other known names: Cyanide Plant No. 1 Cyanide Sand Plant.
