Description |
Large steam locomotive, constructed mostly of black cast iron with gold-painted detailing. The engine is serial number 4669, built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works in Philadelphia, PA for the Homestake Mining Company. It was shipped to Bismarck by rail, then hauled to Lead by a bull train led by Louis LaPlant in June 1879. The engine hauled ore for the Homestake Mine from August 26, 1879 until it was retired in 1901. The locomotive was named for an early stockholder in the Mine. The locomotive was repainted and polished for its inclusion in the Adams Museum Collection in January 1932. |
